The PC version of 2K Games’ gritty mobster sequel Mafia II will leverage Steamworks, Valve announced today. As such, the title boasts several Steam-specific perks, including “auto-updating, Steam Achievements, statistics, downloadable content, and more.”

Additionally, 2K is offering up a freebie to gamers that pre-order the standard or Digital Deluxe flavor of Mafia II through “select digital retailers” and Steam. Fork over the green ahead of Mafia II’s August 24 release and you’ll receive a free digital copy of the original Mafia in return.

“Using Steamworks to power Mafia II has been a great benefit for 2K Games and our development team,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

“It’s meant that we can spend more time creating content and a great experience for our customers because we know that Steam and Steamworks are enabling these important features within the game.”

Mafia II joins a growing list of third-party PC titles backed by Valve’s cloud-based Steamworks suite, which include the likes of Metro 2033 and Modern Warfare 2.
