It’s about time. Nikkei is reporting that Kaz Hirai of ‘Riiiiidge Raaaacer’ fame will soon be named President of Sony. Last year, a management shakeup was announced that saw Hirai move from his 4 year tenure as the boss of PlayStation to overseeing the company’s entire consumer electronics division.

Howard Stringer remains the CEO of Sony, though it is expected that Hirai will eventually take his post. While other segments of Sony’s corporate umbrella have suffered massive losses over the years, Hirai led the game business to profitability as he filled in the shoes of Ken Kutaragi, otherwise known as the father of the PlayStation. A well deserved promotion, we’d say.
