Rumor: Resident Evil 6 Marks Return To Series Roots

With Tokyo Game Show 2011 kicking off for press types tomorrow, speculation is rife that Capcom is gearing up to unveil Resident Evil 6. According to a report from EGM, citing a “reliable insider,” the upcoming title will harken a return to the series roots.

Reportedly, Capcom aims to make this the “most gruesome” Resident Evil to date, with a real emphasis placed on making the game “brutally scary.” It does jive with previous talk. Back in 2009, Resident Evil 5 series producer Jun Takeuchi said RE6 would be a full-on reboot, marking a “revolutionary” jump in the series.

Many would agree that the scare factor took a backseat in the most recent installment, so this is promising news, if true. Looks like we’ll find out soon enough.

RE5 was a quality game, but I'm all for something new and something more frightening.

Craig Fairfax says:

I just hope it's not a return to way too many locked doors and frustrating amounts of backtracking?

Shoo says:

I hope you meant most recent "installments" because RE4 wasn't exactly doing a good job either.

january39 says:

I liked teh early ones the best, back tracking is all part of RE (as are locked doors, lol)

Trigun says:

I'm up for anything!

Old Style, Re4 Style. Whatever!

Just anything isn't a lame "Multiplayer Shooter"
