After the Impulse buyout last March, yet another digital distribution service has changed hands. Video game rental service GameFly today announced its acquisition of IGN’s Direct2Drive (D2D). As part of the deal, GameFly will add an expansive list of over 3,000 PC and Mac titles for digital download, backed by its comprehensive rental catalog.

No immediate changes to either service are planned in the near future, however.

We have some ideas but need to get the D2D team onboard and benefit from their experience. We will let our customers know as soon as we are ready to roll them out,” GameFly CEO Dave Hodess told ShackNews. While specifics of the deal were not announced, IGN isn’t completely cutting ties, as it has been granted a “minority stake” in the company.
