Sony Phasing Out PSPgo?

by Mike Bendel on April 19, 2011 @ 10:55 am

The days of Sony’s portable “experiment” — the PSPgo — may be numbered. According to a blog with supposed connections to Japan’s Sony Shop, the company has ceased production of PSPgo units.

Adding credence to that report is a product listing on Sony’s official storefront, which has placed the PSPgo under the category of “backordered” or “discontinued.”  There’s no indication as to when new stock will arrive, if ever.

Straight out of the gate, the PSPgo has always been a bit of an odd case for Sony. It’s a beautiful piece of hardware, hampered by a relatively high price and missing UMD to PSN conversions. With the NGP’s Q4 arrival approaching, we’re not surprised to see its shelf-life end abruptly — if this is indeed a case of them pulling the plug.

It’s a shame that price cut never materialized.

interesting. the one thing i do like about the pspgo is that it is more portable, although its a small for my hands. i probably would have bought one eventually if they would have received the price cut.

Could that cause a price drop for the remaining sale?

The PSPgo is my favourite model of PSP.... it's all the small things/features that make it a good experience for me.

I actually want to pick one up as a portable gaming device until the NGP comes out. I still have my phat 1000 but it's really big and wrecked and I want something to play on the bus to school and work.

If it drops $50 in price, I'll get one.
