Bowling: Building New Call of Duty Engine Would Be ‘Counter Productive’

Despite all the hubbub surrounding the tech dazzle that is Battlefield 3, Infinity Ward community manager Robert “FourZeroTwo” Bowling says the studio has no plans to counter with a new engine of its own.
At this point, building a new engine for the Call of Duty franchise would be “counter productive,” he says. “That would be counter productive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right,” chimed Bowling on Twitter.
While it’d be unrealistic to expect Infinity Ward to churn out another engine just because DICE is doing it, the engine that powers CoD could use an update. If a full revamp isn’t on the cards, perhaps we’ll at least see some tweaks and refinements to the engine with Modern Warfare 3. One can hope.
