by Mike Bendel on February 24, 2011 @ 11:18 am

Not wanting to be outdone by yesterday’s Battlefield 3 tease, Bethesda releases the first-ever gameplay trailer for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, backed by an epic score performed by renowned video game composer Jeremy Soule. To sum up: it’s glorious.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due out on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on November 11.

I was just about to go write about this; you're too fast for me...or it could be that I'm still in classes....grr

Was a huge fan of Elder Scrolls growing up but they haven't really appealed to me lately. I'm hoping this game will change that. Looks like any Elder Scrolls game right now though, wonder how much more they're adding to the game besides dragons. If it's just dragons and a new engine then I'm not too impressed/excited.

One of the things I noticed is the animation has been massively improved from Oblivion. That alone is enough to get me excited.

In vanilla Oblivion (haven't messed around with mods much), many of the NPCs acted like robots. It really killed the immersion factor.

FrozenIpaq says:

I always just killed the NPC's and stole their gear :) However, after seeing L.A. Noire nothing else impresses me..

It looks pretty dam awesome. Would I miss much if I skipped Oblivion and Morrowind and just went for Skyrim?

Riorio99 says:

As far as I'm aware, the stories aren't directly connected, so probably not, but Oblivion is a fantastic game anyway. Not played Morrowind.

Anyway: This looks amazing. If it plays as well as Oblivion,it'll be a classic.

slicer4ever says:

that...looks....EPIC!, this is day one purchase for me(seems any Bethesda game is always a day one purchase for me)

Adiuvo says:

While I pick up my jaw from the floor and pick off the carpet fibers...

No, you won't. The games are connected through the history of the First Empire but otherwise you won't see many of the same characters.

Regarding the trailer this looks stupendous. The variety in moves is fantastic, and the new animations go without saying. The only thing I didn't like was that he main character's hand lacked detail, notably the lack of fingernails despite the rest of the body looking fantastic. Even the dragon shout was in game footage judging from the jagged self shadow.

brb hitting reply.

Bran says:

SNOW AND VIKINGS. That's all I have to say.
