Report: MTV Games Closes Shop

by Mike Bendel on February 3, 2011 @ 4:02 pm

With ties to Harmonix and the Rock Band franchise by extension severed, MCVUK reports that Viacom has shuttered its MTV Games label.

“Only a handful of financial staff remain in the New York office to collect or reconcile any outstanding receivables,” reports the site.

The rush to sell off Harmonix was prompted earlier last year, following the dismal retail performance of Rock Band 3. Sold to investment firm Columbus Nova, Harmonix now operates as an independent studio and plans to continue DLC support for Rock Band.

I knew this was coming when the Harmonix upset happened. What else are they going to produce, Teen Mom simulators?
