Following the proclamation of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm as the “fastest selling PC game of all time,” Blizzard has more statistics to boast about. Notably, that Cataclysm has gone on to sell through 4.7 million units in its first month, which sets a new record for monthly sales in the entire PC space.

That figure counts worldwide sales across all avenues of distribution, including digital.

“We created thousands of new quests, introduced new lands to explore, and extensively revamped the game world for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, making it our biggest and most ambitious expansion yet,” said Bliz CEO Mike Morhaime. “We’ve been floored by the community’s response so far, and we’d like to thank them for their continued passion and support for World of Warcraft, and for helping Cataclysm reach this incredible milestone.”

Not surprising considering the blood sweat and tears blizzard put into the expansion. Shame the aftercare of fixing bugs and patching is a bit slower than it could be.
