Castlevania Reboot Ships 1 Million

by Mike Bendel on November 22, 2010 @ 12:55 pm

With a sequel already on the way according to composer Oscar Araujo, it comes as little surprise that Konami’s latest entry in its vampiric Castlevania franchise is enjoying brisk sales at retail. The publisher sends word today that it has shipped 1 million copies of Lords of Shadow across North America and Europe.

The title is slated to hit Japan next month, December 13.

Konami president Shinji Hirano chimed in on the generally-positive reception:

Castlevania has truly reinvented itself with its move to next gen platforms and we’re extremely pleased at the positive response we’ve seen toward Castlevania: Lords of Shadow globally, mainly due to the dedicated fans who have supported the series for so long.

Bran says:

Good. This game is awesome and deserves it.

KezraPlanes says:

Too bad this game has little to no mention of Dracula.

Bran says:

Who gives a fuck about Dracula?

KezraPlanes says:

It's what the game is all about? It's like having God of War without Kratos or Metal Gear without Snake or Big Boss, it makes no sense whatsoever. Without him, this game would have never existed therefore you wouldn't have been able to say "this game is awesome".

Speaking of God of War, this game has that written all over xD

x3sphere says:

I have to agree, my main beef with this game is that it doesn't really follow Castlevania lore at all. Beyond that, the characters are mostly forgettable.

It's really an odd one. It's the first 3D Castlevania that gets the gameplay right but speaking as a long-time fan of the franchise, falls short in nearly every other area.

I still enjoyed it, but hopefully Konami pays more attention to what made the series great in previous installments with the sequel.

KezraPlanes says:

I have the same beef as you and that's why I haven't got the game yet. YET. I'm way too deep into liking Castlevania to refuse this game, but the total reboot they did completely puts me off =\

Bran says:

Give up. The game is awesome. It is and always will be just 'Lords of Shadow' for me. That's what it was announced as years ago. The 'Castlevania' name was just tacked on for a sales boost for being associated with the IP.

Additionally it's not just God of War. It takes ideas from all sorts of other action games. I hate God of War, I'm a DMC/Baynonetta person myself.
