Rumor: PSP2 Devkit Spy Shots Emerge

The chaps over at VG247 have obtained snapshots of what is purportedly an early PSP2 devkit. The photo, as shown above, is horrendously grainy. Still, it gives a first glimpse at the PSPgo-like form factor and confirms earlier rumors that the handheld boasts dual analog sticks, something PSP owners have been yearning for half a decade now.
Also depicted is a rear trackpad. It’s a flat smooth surface on the back that tracks movement, translated to on-screen motions. Not exactly picturesque, but the placement falls in line with previous rumors.
Keep in mind this is an early revision of the design. The site’s source says later kit builds are comprised of a “single, non-sliding block,” akin to the PSP-1000. Photos of those have not emerged yet.
Last month, Sony ceased production of DTP-T2000A and DTP-H2500A PSP dev hardware, suggesting that it is diverting dev attention away from its current-gen platform. A lack of PSP software releases this year is also telling of a shift in priorities. E3 2011 reveal? Let’s hope.
