PSP2 Talk Emerges At gamescom, Source Claims Rear Touch-Sensitive Controls

Talk amongst inner dev circles is that Sony’s next-generation PSP will feature touch-sensitive controls not built into the screen itself. Instead, a “touch activated area” is situated on the unit’s rear, according to sources close to Eurogamer.
Citing “three separate development sources,” Eurogamer further claims that the unit is “roughly the same size as the PSP-3000.” There’s somewhat of a discrepancy as to when the so-called PSP2 will see the light of day. One source close to the site said to expect a launch by the end 2011, while another believes a release is at least a couple years out.
It’s an interesting concept, though we’re left feeling perplexed over how well it will work in real-world scenarios. Consider us skeptical, for now.
