Microsoft sent word today announcing that pre-orders of upcoming Xbox 360 shooter Gears of War 2 have already surpassed the total pre-sale orders made for the original game, further boasting that the title is “poised to become the must-have video game this holiday season.”

Each copy of Gears 2 will include a promotional token to download the Flashback Map Pack for free, which includes five popular maps from the original Gears of War, including: Canals, Gridlock, Mansion, Subway and Tyro Station. Those who pick up the $69.99 limited edition version will find a token redeemable for a gold-plated Lancer Assault Rifle. Additionally, those who attend any retailer participating in the Midnight Mayhem launch event will receive a token good for a gold-plated Hammerburst Assault Rifle.

Gears of War 2 hits retail shelves November 7 worldwide.
