Microsoft has filed a patent with the USPTO for a gyroscopic-based device that “may be worn on the hand and operated without needing to contact a mousing surface.” In other words, some sort of controller with motion-control functionality.
The patent, which was filed two years ago on October 6, 2006, was made public on the USPTO’s site as of last week April 10, complete with sketches of the device. Keep in mind though, that this is only a patent for an idea. Nothing more. It does not in any way confirm that Microsoft is releasing their own Wii Remote style controller, but certainly makes the prospect of such a device for the Xbox 360 a tad more likely.
