EA Does Away With Pay-To-Play Weaponry In Battlefield: Bad Company

Remember all the drama that unfolded last month, over word that Electronic Arts’ upcoming Xbox 360 title Battlefield: Bad Company would include pay-to-play weaponry?

If so, completely erase it all from your mind. Forget about the whole ordeal, or try to at the very least, as DICE Senior Producer Karl-Magnus Troedsson has confirmed that all extra weapons in Bad Company will be completely free.

There’s no charge for any of the guns in the game. All of the guns in the game can be achieved without purchasing them. All guns are available to everyone. However, we want to give some exclusivity to those who buy the Gold Edition. They will get the five Gold Edition weapons from Day One when they put the disc in. People that don’t buy the Gold Edition can get the five additional weapons by getting to the final rank in the game. There will be a golden, shiny five-weapon unlock when they hit level 25 in the game.

There you go. If you do buy the regular edition of Bad Company, you’ll have to work for the extra guns, but everything is free. There are no weapon-related microtransactions. According to Troedsson, the fact that certain weapons were listed as “purchasable through Xbox Live” in the beta was due to a “internal miscommunication” with the development team. Ah, okay then. Still, I can’t help but wonder if all the uproar this caused had something to do with it, too.
