BDA To Microsoft: Join Us

The Blu-ray Disc Association is welcoming Microsoft with open arms to the Blu-ray family. Speaking in an interview with TechRadar, Frank Simonis, spokesperson for the BDA, expressed his thoughts on inviting a former competitor into the organization:

Microsoft could easily put Blu-ray inside the Xbox. From my understanding Microsoft did an early evaluation and the Xbox has a similar processor to the PS3 so it will be perfectly capable of decoding a Blu-ray disc.

So technically it could do it. All Microsoft would have to do is acquire a BD license.

Will Microsoft go Blu? Now that Toshiba has officially abandoned its HD-DVD format, Microsoft’s plans are unclear at the moment. Yesterday the company issued a statement, noting that it would wait for word from Toshiba before announcing any specific plans regarding its Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on peripheral.

What next for Blu-ray? [TechRadar]
