Bach: Next Xbox Still A Ways Off

As is expected, Microsoft is staying in for the long haul this console generation. Speaking to Mercury News, Xbox president Robbie Bach stated that he fully expects the life cycle of the 360 as well as competing consoles PS3 and Wii to last “a little longer” than the previous. His reasoning? “[C]oming up with something that’s faster and prettier isn’t going to be sufficient,” according to Bach.

He certainly has a point. With the economy in its current state, consumers likely aren’t going to shell out a few hundred dollars for a whole new platform with only a promise of higher resolution graphics. The next round of consoles will have to innovate, as Nintendo has, and continues to do so, with Wii.
