Virtual Console Sales Numbers Revealed

While it’s a given that Nintendo is making oodles of cash off its DLC-based Virtual Console service, how much exactly are they making? It’s a number that hasn’t been revealed, until now that is.

According to IGN, during a recent press conference held in Tokyo, Nintendo exec Shinji Hatano was quoted as saying that the Wii Virtual Console service has enjoyed nearly 7.8 file downloads since launch, while generating sales of around 3.5 billion yen, or $33 million.

Surprisingly, the Nintendo exec said that he was “unsure” if the figures were good or not.

We’re currently unsure if this is a lot or low. They’re not bad figures.

The numbers sound pretty good to me. It’s not like it takes Nintendo a whole lot of effort to throw up retro games on the service.
