THQ Licenses Nintendo IP
by October 17, 2007 @ 12:11 pm

A recent SEC filing has revealed that THQ entered into a confidential license agreement with Nintendo on October 12. Obviously specifics on the agreement weren’t given, but the form denotes that THQ now has the right to use certain Nintendo IP until October 13, 2009.
THQ has been granted the right to use certain of Nintendo’s intellectual property to develop, have developed, have manufactured, advertise, market and sell video game software for play on Wii until October 13, 2009 in all countries within the Western Hemisphere.
This essentially means THQ is working on a new game for the Wii with characters owned by Nintendo in it. Wonder what though…
Update: Chris over at Wired did some digging on the story and found that the above text is usually standard in these type of agreements. In reality THQ is just renewing the contract which allows them to use confidential information about Nintendo’s hardware in their own games.
