The combination of sky-high oil prices and rising sales of Nintendo’s Wii in Japan is taking a toll on arcade owners. Namco Bandai have announced that roughly one-fifth of its arcades are closing up shop, while Sega plans to axe 100 of their arcades.

Namco Bandai spokesperson Yuji Machida believes that since many Japanese children received a Wii over the holidays, they are now spending most of their money towards additional peripherals or software for the console.
