At its Media Summit in San Francisco, Nintendo today announced that Metroid: Other M will hit the Wii on June 27.

Currently on a release date frenzy of sorts, this tidbit comes just moments after confirming that Super Mario Galaxy 2, another big-hitter, will arrive on May 23. Metroid: Other M was initially revealed at Nintendo’s E3 2009 media briefing, much to the dismay of those in attendance. We’ll admit, seeing another Metroid title did little to phase us. Learning that Team Ninja was behind it all was the true bombshell.

Notably, Nintendo revealed that while a bulk of the action plays out in a 2D setting, players can actually switch over to a 3D perspective at any given time while exploring the twisted depths of a derelict space station as bounty hunter Samus Aran. While we still have yet to witness this ourselves, it sounds like a mind-blowing gameplay concept, at least on paper. Footage should surface soon.
