LucasArts: DS Cart Size Not Adequate For Adventure Classics

Speaking in a recent interview, LucasArts PR manager Chris Norris and Jeffrey Gullett, assistance producer for the company’s upcoming shooter Fracture, were asked about the possibility of bringing point-and-click adventure classics such as Indiana Jones and the Fate of the Atlantis and Monkey Island to the Wii or Nintendo DS.
While Norris said that releasing such titles on both of the aforementioned platforms is something they are continually considering, Gullett went on record to say that it is literally impossible to port the titles over to the DS, due to the handheld’s cart size.
The cart size of the DS makes it impossible to put out ports of any of our old graphic adventures. There’s literally not enough room on those carts to put the games out.
Bull. Many of these games shipped on floppy discs and you’re saying they can’t fit on a DS cart? Seriously, really? I’d love to hear his technical reasoning behind why. Not to mention, the homebrew application SCUMMVM can run these LucasArts classics fine on the DS.
