Cryptic Nixes Plans For Console Version of Champions Online

Posted by Mike Bendel on March 24, 2010 @ 1:43 pm

Looks like another console MMO just bit the dust. Developer Cryptic Studios has nixed plans for a console version of its upcoming superhero MMO Champions Online, despite being originally scheduled for a release on PC and Xbox 360. According to a forum post penned by company COO Jack Emmert, all attention remains locked on the PC, going as far to note that “there are no current plans for a console version of Champions.”

100% of our focus is on making the current PC product the best it can be. There are no current plans for a console version of Champions.

No current plans means a console version still looms as a possibility down the road. Judging from Emmert’s tone, though, things aren’t looking hopeful.

fMSX PSP v3.5.3

Posted by Mike Bendel on June 24, 2008 @ 4:24 pm

Homebrew developer Akop Karapetyan, otherwise known as Uberjack, has released a maintenance update to fMSX, an MSX series emulator for the PSP that supports both MSX and MSX2 cartridge files.

Version 3.5.3 includes a single bug fix and an additional feature which saves ROM type settings between loading sessions, as detailed in the changelog provided below.

* Games/applications that require MSX Audio/MSX Music will no longer crash the emulator if either is disabled in System settings – there will simply be no Y2413/YM8950 audio (PSG and SCC will still render as usual, however)
* ROM type settings are now saved between sessions – up to 500 different ROM’s can be tracked by CRC32 value. This adds a slight loading delay when the emulator starts up, as well as a saving delay when the emulator exits (if any changes are made during the session)

The author notes that the aforementioned feature is still experimental and is welcoming any feedback that users may have.

Homebrew developer Uberjack has released a maintenance update to fMSX, an MSX series emulator for the PSP that supports both MSX and MSX2 cartridge files.

Previous versions of the emulator contained two mislabeled configuration settings. In the updated release, both MSX Music and MSX Audio now correctly refer to FMPAC/YM2413 and Y8950, respectively. As such, the author notes that users should make sure that MSX Music is enabled if FMPAC-based titles were previously freezing.
