Ubidays ’07: Blazing Angels 2

Posted by Mike Bendel on May 24, 2007 @ 9:18 pm

Ubisoft has released some new screenshots of its upcoming air combat simulator, Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WWII. As the title implies, Blazing Angels 2 takes place during the war-ravaged era of the 1940s, in which players will helm Operation Wildcard, a covert squad of elite pilots secretly created by the American government. Your mission is to sabotage and destroy the Third Reich’s evil plans to create a weapon of mass destruction.

During the operation, you’ll discover not so surprisingly that the opposing force has an elite team of their own. In an effort to stop your foes, you’ll engage in 18 high impact missions, while piloting authentic planes and prototypes ranging from the Gotha Go 229 to the DH Vampire F Mk 1. You’ll also carry a vast arsenal of experimental World War II weapons, such as High Velocity Cannons and Self-Guided missiles.

Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WWII is slated for release this August on both the Xbox 360 and PC.

Ubidays ’07: Naruto Rise of a Ninja

Posted by Mike Bendel on May 24, 2007 @ 9:13 pm

This Fall, Ubisoft is set to release Naruto: Rise of a Ninja. Unlike most other titles set in the Naruto universe thus far, Ubi Montreal’s take on the series will combine action adventure gameplay, classic platforming battles, head-to-head fighting and in-depth character development. Fusing all those elements together, we get a Naruto game that will play like an action RPG.

Rise of a Ninja will closely chronicle the events of the anime series, all the way from the very beginning up to the 80th episode. Players will explore Konoha Village and its vast surroundings, as well as interact with familiar faces from the anime like Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi.

While not many details have been given, you’ll also be able to challenge friends in the battlefield of your choice on Xbox Live. Naruto: Rise of a Ninja is set to be released this Fall as an Xbox 360 exclusive. Check out the first high quality screens after the jump.

Ubisoft has offered up some new, high quality screens of the next Brothers in Arms game, a heated first-person shooter series that is Ubi’s answer to Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. From series to trilogy, Hell’s Highway drops players into Operation Market-Garden, the largest airborne operation of World War II. As war hero Matt Baker and the rest of the 101st Airborne Division team, you’ll fight to open “Hell’s Highway” in a daring bid for a quick end to the war.

Look for Brothers In Arms Hell’s Highway to hit the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 later this year. New screens can be viewed after the jump.

Ubisoft’s mascot is making a return in Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, a follow-up to last year’s mini-game packed Rayman Raving Rabbids. In this crazy sequel, the mischievous Rabbids are back, and they are poised to invade our beloved Planet Earth. As part of a nefarious scheme to carry out world domination, the Rabbids must carry out several missions around the globe. You, as Rayman, must stop this insanity and foil their plans once and for all.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 is slated for a release on the Nintendo DS and Wii later this year.

Ubidays ’07: Haze

Posted by Mike Bendel on May 23, 2007 @ 11:10 am

Haze, Ubisoft’s upcoming futuristic shooter that is being developed by the FPS gurus over at Free Radical Design, was shown at the Ubidays press event. In Haze, players take control of a war-torn Mantel soldier who has been sent to fight a vicious rebel faction known as the Promise Hand.

As a Mantel solider, you will have access to cutting edge weaponry, vehicles, and a mysterious biomedical technology known as NECTAR. Nectar is the key element that separates Haze from the dozens of other FPS-type games. Using it, you will be empowered with fighting skills such as Nectar Focus, Nectar Foresight, Nectar Perception and Melee Blast. Use of the skills will allow players to foresee dangers as well as deliver devastating attacks. However, Nectar does have its side-effects. Overdoses of the substance can lead your character into a state of aggression.

In addition to the vast single player campaign, Haze will feature a variety of online modes, including intense four-player co-op action. Look for Haze to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC later this year. Rumors are suggesting that the PS3 will get it first, but I’ve heard nothing official from Ubi concerning the matter.

Ubidays ’07: Assassin’s Creed Trailer

During its Ubidays press conference today, Ubisoft unveiled a new gameplay video of the game that won numerous awards at last year’s E3, Assassin’s Creed. The game follows the story of Altair, who must venture out into the Holy Land and assassinate men said to be exacerbating and exploiting the hostilities created by the Third Crusade.

This new trailer is very impressive, showing off the intricately detailed environments as well as fluid animations. Can’t wait to get my hands on this one. Assassin’s Creed will be hitting both the Xbox 360 and PS3 (hopefully) this year.

Ubidays ’07: Beowulf Announced

Posted by Mike Bendel on May 22, 2007 @ 2:33 pm

At its Ubidays press conference today, Ubisoft announced the development of Beowulf, a new movie-game adaptation heading to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Based on Robert Zemeckis’s upcoming film adaptation of the classic English poem, Beowulf will feature gameplay of the hack and slash vein. Details are scarce, but the game should closely follow the plot of the film and players will take control of the warrior Beowulf who must fight and defeat his arch nemesis Grendel.

Alain Corre of Ubisoft thinks the game will “re-invent the hack-and-slash genre.” There’s no doubt, if executed properly, this game could be a huge hit – Beowulf has the perfect setting for a hack and slash type game.
