No Ubidays for 2009

ubidays
Ubisoft has decided to drop its Ubidays media event this year. While the show once served as a glittering showcase of upcoming and recently released Ubisoft titles, the publisher now plans to focus its attention solely on the three main regional events of E3, GamesCom, and Tokyo Games Show.

With regards to Ubidays, with the E3 event in the US, the GamesCom in Europe and Tokyo Games Show in Japan, we think that we’ll have great outlets to present our creativity and innovation to a worldwide audience and will therefore reconsider our plans. There won’t be a Ubidays this year.

Held at the Louvre museum in France, last year’s Ubidays was quite the success, with over 1,000 journalists attending. SEGA and THQ pulled a similar move as well, having axed plans to host their Business Partners Summit event. Clearly the introduction of a larger E3 expo is eliminating the need for most of these smaller shows.

Rumor: Ubi Planning Prince of Persia Game Movie Tie-In

Posted by Mike Bendel on June 2, 2008 @ 8:27 pm

According to a GameDaily piece, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot dropped word during Ubidays 2008 that the company has plans to release another Prince of Persia title — in addition to the recently announced cel-shaded Prince of Persia reboot. The title is said to be based on the forthcoming live-action film, which incidentally, is based on the already released video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

In case you’re confused, this new title is reportedly a video game adaptation of a movie that is based on a game, if that makes sense. Don’t expect an official announcement anytime soon, as the movie isn’t expected to hit theaters until next summer.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is no longer in pre-production. At its Ubidays media event in Paris today, Ubisoft chief executive officer Yves Guillemot confirmed that a sequel to 2003′s highly praised action-adventure title is in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

As expected, designer Michel Ancel is heading up the project. No further details were released, nor was a projected release date. We’d say 2009 is likely, though.

Following rampant speculation that a new game in the Prince of Persia series was in development, Ubisoft has launched an all-new website for the franchise.

All that’s up on the site as of writing is a mysterious floating image, which admittedly is nothing too substantial, but it does hint that a new PoP is in development. Ubidays is only a few weeks away, so it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect concrete details on the title soon.

Following recent rumors and murmurs that suggest Ubisoft is working on a Nintendo DS rendition of its upcoming Assassin’s Creed, it now has been revealed that producer Jade Raymond hinted at the development of a new portable game during UbiDays.

We want to make a real plan where you can make a game, you make a book, you know, maybe other types of portable games that have complementary experiences

Interesting. Seems more and more likely that Assassin’s Creed is indeed coming to DS.
