Sony Says No To WiFi Multiplayer, DLC for PSP Minis

We know of the 100MB size limit that titles under the PSP Minis banner must adhere to, but it appears there are more restrictions in the content department, if comments from SCEA senior account manager Justin Cooney are anything to go by.

Cooney says no form of WiFi multiplayer component is allowed, nor is downloadable content. Additionally, software updates are also a no-no, meaning quality assurance testing will likely be more stringent as opposed to a standard PSN effort.

When you look at it from a testing perspective, you have to do more QA. [Allowing those features] would defeat the purpose of having a dedicated service for smaller content.

From our perspective, if we’re going to reduce the time it takes to get through our internal process, it helps that we don’t have to check multiplayer features.

The first serving of Minis are slated to hit the PlayStation Store on October 1 to coincide with the launch of PSPgo.

KingPepper says:

@Pro Burnt,

Why don't you save your money, and download a few emulators, on your CFW PSP, and play thousands of mini games there. IE...Nes / Snes / Megadrive / GB / GBA / N64 / ZX-Spectrum / and now even the mini mobile phone games using the Java & Lua homebrew.

see what i mean, these PSP Mini's are going to be worthless, piece's of crap.

meh...
I porb wont buy any but maby if sumthin catches my eye

x3sphere says:

The fact they are disallowing WiFi support is a bit of a downer, but it doesn't mean the games won't be good. Some of the best PSP games did not have multiplayer. And I know a homebrew developer who managed to gain acceptance in the Minis program. So, we'll see. It's too early to label it as a failure yet.

I'm playing "n+" nowadays. It has a multiplayer mode but that isn't necessary for me. Single player levels are damn good. It could have easily been a Minis title without WiFi options and I'd probably have bought it.

angelsniper45 says:

N+ is amazing. Ive spent hours on it. :laugh:

I spent a good part of my time in college playing N instead of doing work... xD
