Sonic Rivals 2 Announced

A follow-up to Sega’s high-speed “on-foot” racer featuring Sonic and friends was rumored a few weeks ago, but now Sega has made it official: Sonic Rivals 2 is heading to the PSP.

While the first game failed short of my expectations, second time is the charm, right? Sonic Rivals 2 will feature all-new power-ups and range weapons allowing players to attack or defend themselves regardless of their position. A brand-new ad-hoc Battle mode has also been added, allowing players to face off in six different multiplayer challenges by sharing just one UMD.

Additionally, the game will include a wealth of playable characters from the Sonic univere, each having their own unique signature moves. If you start to grow tired of the fast-speed action, a Free Play mode has been added which allows players to enjoy and experience levels at their own pace.

That’s not all – Sonic Rivals 2 will now feature more than 150 collectible cards, enabling players to customize character’s track suits, as well as unlocking new PSP backgrounds and Cup Circuits. First screenshots after the jump.

Sonic is awesome but I felt the first one for psp fell short hope this one improves.

That's always been the issue with Sonic - the quality varies quite a bit. While I wouldn't say any are BAD, they do sometimes fall short of expectations. That's the problem with making great games - follow ups have a tough act to follow. At least in my opinion, the Sonic games are good enough that I go ahead and buy them rather than renting first to see if I like it because I know the general level of quality is at least good.
