Rumor has it that Sony has permanently canned Gran Turismo 4 Mobile. The title, originally announced back in 2004, was said to be a exact port of the PlayStation 2 game, Gran Turismo 4, for the PSP.

Despite assurances from Polyphony Digital producer Kazunori Yamauchi that the mobile version of GT4 was still in development, IGN reports that GameStop is calling pre-orderers of the title and notifying them that it has been canceled. Additionally, the title has been taken off GameStop’s product pages.

Has Gran Turismo 4 Mobile been canceled? We’re not getting a good vibe here — it certainly seems so. Looking on the bright side of things, perhaps Polyphony is considering to develop a new GT game specifically designed for the PSP — and that’s why they have scrapped the idea of directly porting GT4. Wishful thinking, I know.
