PSP Firmware 5.05 Included On Idol Master SP UMD

Based on a tip received earlier today, which we have independently verified, a copy of firmware 5.05 for PSP is included on UMD title Idol Master SP. There’s no changelog included and as such it is anyone’s guess as to what is new. Sources say the title fails to boot on the latest edition of M33 firmware, so this could very well be a compatibility update, which would explain why Sony has chosen not to release the firmware through usual channels.

Firmware updates have been released solely on UMD in the past. Hot Shots Golf 2 comes to mind, which included 3.96.

This is bad news for people that have not yet bought a PSP 3000. Very soon people that have not bought yet won't be albe to take advantage of Gripshift exploit as Sony will be quick to update the units they ship to retailers.

Will the new PSP-3000s ship with Version 5.05? I was thinking they would come with Version 5.03, but since there is an update for the UMD; won't s0nY ship the PSP-3000 with Version 5.05 to have compatibility with the UMD game out-of-the-box?
