PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33

Update: Dark_AleX has released a statement regarding the 0xFFFFFFFF PSOne error in 5.00 M33. According to Alex, the issue is due to the new pops supporting only PNG images in 24 bits format. PSOne conversion applications, such as PSX2PSP, save icons in 32 bit. Future M33 releases will automatically replace an icon with an invalid color depth.

To work around this issue, either use the original command line PSOne conversion tool, or select the “Old Default” icon type under options in PSX2PSP.

In a matter of mere days following the official release of PSP firmware 5.0, homebrew developer Dark_AleX has updated his M33 custom firmware series to 5.0. Talk about fast, eh? For the complete 5.00 M33 changelog, look below:

* 4.01 to 5.00
* Bug fix: when changing speed in XMB, and the psp turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reset to 222 again.

As usual, to manually install the firmware, copy over the UPDATE folder included in the archive below over to PSP/GAME on your Memory Stick. From there, simply download the 500.PBP and save it in the same folder. Lastly, execute the 5.00 M33 updater from the PSP’s Game menu.
