PSP Custom Firmware 4.01 M33-2 Released Alongside 1.5 Kernel Add-on

Posted by x3sphere at June 29, 2008, 12:18 pm

Developer Dark_AleX has issued an update to yesterday’s release of PSP custom firmware 4.01 M33, fixing a couple minor bugs regarding the built-in NID resolver and recovery mode. The complete changelog for 4.01 M33-2 can be found below.

* NID resolver: Fixed scePowerGetCpuClockFrequency issue. This is the same bug that happened in 3.80 M33-1, it won’t happen again ??

* Fixes recovery problems that have appeared in prior version (incorrect position of back string in language others than English, enable, and disabled strings not translated in plugins, hide pic0+pic1 couldn’t be changed, language file in flash1 wasn’t working..

* Spanish recovery translation typos fixed.

Additionally, as promised, the 1.5 kernel add-on for regular (fat) PSP units running 4.01 M33 series firmware has been released. Installing this is optional, but it will give you full compatibility with older homebrew titles that were written specifically for firmware 1.5. Installation instructions can be found at this link, courtesy of forum moderator Acerthief.

lol, I was about to PM one of the mods about this (since x3 is offline)
don't forget about the 1.50 kernel addon

PS: Say to Alek that the link to 1.50 kernel addon is incorrect, it's linking to the Time machine thread o.0

Acerthief says:

Oh okay.
I have no way to contact Alek actually XD.
I'l leave that to x3

MSA says:

Please repair translate recovery. When i translate it in Russian, i can't see Russian letters in recovery menu.:crying:
That's my translation file: http://rapidshare.com/files/125909030/ru_recovery.txt.html

Jack says:

ch1 -> chinese simplified
not Support

Why?

AND ISO/CSO name is use the chinese simplified the game can not start!

J.dizzlle says:

I'm a little new to this. But I have CFW 3.90 M33-3. I've never ran an update like this so i'm not fully sure what i'm doing. When I download the update from send space it opens with winRAR. Then I see 3 folders and a readme. The folders I see are SDK translate UPDATE, then the read me. I plugged my psp in and enabled USB, then I dragged and dropped UPDATE to F:PSPGAME Then the instructions tell me to drag and drop 4.01 M33-2.PBP. I do not see this? Where is it and where do I drag and drop it to?

Thanks for any help.

x3sphere says:

First of all this is nowhere to be found in the included instructions. You should download the update from the links here, not Sendspace.

Also... as stated in the post, 4.01 M33-2 is an update for 4.01 M33. You can't go directly from 3.90 M33-3 to 4.01 M33-2. You'll need to install 4.01 M33 first, then update to 4.01 M33-2. Hopefully that makes more sense.

I recommend checking out the 4.01 M33 installation guide here: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=7669

homn says:

Is the official 1.50 firmware update have to be on the root of the memory stick, for the 1.5 Kernel Add-on, to install?

homn says:

Never mind, I found the link to the Installation instructions for the 1.5 Kernel Add-on.

silver_surfer says:

sir with all due respect I was able to Update to CFW 4.01 m33-2 from CFW 3.90 m33-3

ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE

UPDATE folder contains EBOOT.PBP from 4.01 m33-2

update and Sony's OFW renamed to 401.PBP.

SHOCK says:

i've been waiting for this update for some time..
but verson 4.01 m33-2 does have some minor problems when i upgraded my psp slim.
there were freezing in the xmb, during navigating, and it would shut my psp down. for now i downgraded back to 3.90 m33-3 and wait for the next update.

Acerthief says:

I'm having no problem with 4.01M33-2.
Maybe it was a bad flash, or you've used a faulty memory stick.

RJC4LIFE says:

No probs here, popsloader 380v2 works now? Ok, cool.Tested it last night,it worked for every game I have.Is a newer prx coming out though that supports 380,395.etc.?

LOICE says:

please can someone take out flah o back up for 4.01m33-2

web872 says:

if i install this update of 4.01m33 will i lose all my data on my memory stick like all my backups and apps ?

do i have to backup my files?

American-Seller says:

Hello everybody!
I've just finished installing the new firmware 4.01 M33 with the update 2 and Kernel for 4.01 and everything whent just perfectly. But when i formated my 8GB Memory Stick through the PSP i started to detect only 4GB instead of 8GB. Did this happen to anybody else? The Card is original Sony and it was working fine with the 3.90 firmware with latest update. This just happend with this firmware. Please help me. Thank you!

x3sphere says:

Are you sure it is not a fake memory stick? This usually happens on fake sticks...

Were you able to use the entire 8GB space before upgrading to 4.01 M33?

Ledski says:

Hey I think I found a problem. when im playing the PSX version of FFVII it seems to be going a lot slower since i upgraded from 3.90, and im using posloader so maybe theres a problem with that.

Anyone else had this problem?

solarnoise says:

I had the memory stick mod to fix the lag issues, just upgraded to 4.01m33-2
Do I need to do the mod again or is it still there?

x3sphere says:

The fatmsmod patch will not work on 4.01 M33, but it seems like Sony has fixed the lag issues in this firmware.

deejay6901 says:

hi

whats the difference between the cxmb themes(which overwrites the flash0 folder) with the CTF theme? are they just the same or the cxmb is a compiled version of CTF. please help. thanks

x3sphere says:

All CXMB themes are in CTF format. To put it simply, it's basically a packaged version of all the theme files (similar to a ZIP archive).

Using CTF files is safer and easier since you can load themes directly from your memory stick, instead of replacing files on the flash0 - which, if you don't know what you're doing, can cause a brick. Plus, when using CTF files, you can change themes straight from the Theme Settings menu.

deejay6901 says:

yep i know. so i guess its better to use CTF rather than replacing font0 folder huh. as ive tried both methods. anyways. thanks again!!!!

cheers

American-Seller says:

Yes it's original. I had a fake one before this one but then i talked to the guy who sold me it and he trade it for a Original Sony because half of the games weren't detecting on the PSP. It even says Sony. And before the 4.01 firmware it was working fine detecting all 8GB but now it only detects 4GB on the PSP.

kentakluring says:

Im playing FFVII to but and have popsloader 3.80 v2 installed. But i dont cannot change discs. It doesnt say anything in my home meny about it. please help

kentakluring says:

BTW i have CFW 4.01 installed on my slim.

kentakluring says:

If it helps that is;)

RJC4LIFE says:

It won't if you didn't make a multidisc eboot, you did right? The option only shows up if you have a multidisc eboot from 371 and up.

x3sphere says:

I see, but were you able to actually use more than 4GB space on the stick before upgrading?

I would try formatting it on the PC using FAT32.

American-Seller says:

Yes i was able to use all space before this version. I formated the card on the PC with memory card reader and it's working fine now. It's detecting the 8GB. And after this i tried formating the card directly from the PSP menu and it's still detecting the full 8GB. Maby it was some bug during the update but doesn't matter now. Everything is ok. thank you for the help.

syk0413 says:

Hi Alex,

Acerthief says:

O and X can be changed in the "Recovery Menu" -> "Registry Hack"

NickyWave says:

Hi guys.

Could you tell me one thing?

Does this new firmware have the NO-UMD Driver like 3.90-3 M33?

Can i upgrade it directly from 3.90-3?

I'm kinda n00b on this!

thanks in advance.

And sorry for my english....i'm portuguese...

silver_surfer says:

@ NickyWave: yes you can update directly from CFW 3.90 m33-3 to CFW 4.01 m33-3.

just copy the UPDATE folder of CFW 4.01 m33-2 to ms0:/PSP/GAME

then download Sony's OFW 4.01 and rename it to 401.pbp and

copy it to ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE

UPDATE folder should contain EBOOT.PBP & 401.PBP

tyz123 says:

hi im new to this forum and i want to get the best out of my psp phat ive got 4.01 official firmware ive never had cfw but i wont to get it could someone help me out plz :D also does it have a umd driver

silver_surfer says:

@ tyz123: you need a pandora kit to convert your official firmware psp to a custom firmware psp.

here's the guide
http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3780

tyz123 says:

what does the pandora battery do and i dont get it atall them steps say u need custom firmware first b4 the battery and magic mem
and i was watching a video the other day it said u need to cut the battery upen and take a chip off the circuit board lol what should i do first the battery or the mem card hav u got msn

silver_surfer says:

@ tyz123: with Pandora Battery (magic ms & jigkick mode battery) you could upgrade/downgrade your official firmware..

you need a cfw psp: to create pandora battery (soft-mod) no need to open (literally) the battery..

regarding the pin: this is the 2nd route (Hard-Mod) in making pandora battery if you can't source out another cfw psp..

maybe it's more appropriate if you ask this questions in the proper thread -> Here

tyz123 says:

it says u can skip the battery part and what does this magic memory card do and the tutorial its like bkwards lol also last thing how am i ment to create a magic memory card without cfw psp

silver_surfer says:

@ tyz123: you can skip the battery part if you already have a pandora battery (JigKick Mode Battery)

tyz123 says:

well i cant do it then cus i dnt no any1 with a cfw psp lool and what does the magic mem card do

silver_surfer says:

@ tyz123: you can do it but it's too risky to open your battery..

basically magic ms is a regular memory stick with a special IPL that enable your pandora battery to load/work
(so you need them both)

pspknightx says:

Find a friend who has a CFW PSP and is well-known in this to help you.
If not, you have to take your own risk > <

vuanhquan92 says:

hey guys, I'm new here, and I just brought my PSP from 3.71M33-2 to 4.01M33, after that, I copied the UPDATE folder of the 4.01M33-2 to PSPGAME , which contain only the EBOOT.PBP file. And on the memory stick on the PSP menu, "there is no games here", what should I do???? and how can I play ISO/CSO games on this CFW 4.01M33-2, do I have to create GAME4XX or what???(after I update 4.01M33, I'm not formatted the memory stick yet cuz I want to save my Magic Memory Stick files)

OptimusPrim3 says:

ok im new to the psp homebrew stuff...
i got a phat psp and i already updated to fw 4.01 on wi fi
i didnt know there were any like custom firewares...
i want the M33
but when i try to do it all i get is error code 80020148

ugh, i cant downgrade and idk wat to do...

am i still able to get a custome firmware?

x3sphere says:

Make sure you are placing the ISO games in the correct folder (e.g. X:/ISO). If they still fail to show up try formatting your memory stick.

@OptimusPrim: No, not without the help of another person who has CFW. You need a Pandora battery and magic memory stick.

rasengan609 says:

so if i buy a psp slim new right now would i be able to install the custom firmware without installing the older versions first (or would i be able to install the firmware at all?)

Thanks in advance

heatzz says:

I have the same problem here, previous i was in 3.90 m33-3 now 4.01 m33-2.

I can only look-up my games after i when to photo/video run it so that the memory stick led flashes then i can look-up my games and load it.

Seems to be a delay or bug, anyone knows how to fix?

EDITED: I reformatted my MS and that fixed the problem.

B2K24 says:

Alot of people are saying this happens but with all 3 of my Sandisks sticks
2X 4GB 1X 8GB this didn't happen to me at all, no matter if Im on 4.01 M33
or 4.01 M33-2. In fact I get faster access then 3.90 M33-3 with fatmsmod.
