Nah, nothing in 3.95 that's really worth upgrading for, IMO.

True - I'm still on 3.90 M33. Unless something MAJOR comes along, there's little reason to use newer firmwares, and if something major DID come along, D_A would make a new version of M33. :biggrin:

I've actually been to 395Gen back to 390M33-3 and now back to 395Gen-2 just to try it out some more,mostly because I like to the fact that Silent Hill plays in 395 and the custom controls make the game easier to play.Intresting how the popsloader plugin fix was addressed..it now loads it up sometimes even when the plugin is disabled..lol.At the root I have some files that I'm curious about though.They are:
Init_load_exe.bin,Init_load_pops.bin,powerlock_count.bin,and Init_Control.txt.Any idea on their purpose? I get the pops bit just not the others.
On a side note GAME395 folder works...while GAME3XX folder doesn't..which is why USBISOLoader doesn't work.(Asks for Game3xx folder..bummer)their are other issues with this firmware but I've ranted enough..390M33-3 here I come again..

Alright, so I was recently given a PSP by a friend, and unfortunately he had already updated the to OFW 3.95, and through my looking around at custom firmwares it appears the only way for me to install CFW 3.95 GEN-2 is to downgrade, for which I'd need a pandora battery and a magic memory stick of which I have neither. Now it seems to me that downgrading to upgrade is kind of counter productive to begin with, regardless of the fact that I can't do it anyway. Wouldn't it just be simpler to change the coding of the CFW to "convince" the PSP that it was say version 3.96, thereby "tricking" the PSP into allowing the update? Granted I know very little about programming, but this method seems to be a little easier than downgrading. Any input from those who are more programming savvy would be welcome.

By default, official firmware can only run code that is signed by Sony. Every single UMD title and firmware update is encrypted. In comparison, homebrew applications are unsigned, so even if 3.96 GEN was released -- your PSP still wouldn't be able to upgrade to it.

Getting your hands on a Pandora battery and magic memory stick without a CFW PSP isn't too hard though. There are shops that sell pre-converted batteries and as for the memory stick files, they can easily be found online. Although we do not host them here as they are illegal to share.
