PSP Custom Firmware 3.80 M33 Released

Posted by x3sphere at January 14, 2008, 9:25 am

It’s here! Dark_AleX has finally released custom firmware 3.80 M33 to the masses. As per usual, the latest edition in the M33 firmware series features all the enhancements included in official firmware 3.80, plus a load of extras.

Specific changes and bug fixes are outlined below.

* HEN core: user mode can load now signchecked files from flash.
* recovery: flash1 format will create flash1 directories after format.
This could fix some flash1 issues with the previous versions.
* Network update from dark-alex.org page. By default is enabled.
You can turn it off in recovery (when off, network update will download sony updates as usual).
* Nids resolver for various kernel libraries.

In addition, Alex notes that popsloader in its current form will not work with 3.80 M33. A new version compatible with 3.80 M33 will be released shortly.

Check out our 3.80 M33 install guide for detailed setup and installation instructions.

Update: Dark_AleX has sent word that a 1.5 kernel add-on for regular PSP units is currently in the works. Expect a release soon.

Update 2: Dark_AleX has released a bug fix update to the initial 3.80 M33 release. Download 3.80 M33-2 here.

Neat, x3 beat me to posting XD.

I was making the thread and he told me "I already posted." XD

Oh well, not important, the new is the main character.

All hail DAX!

Does the 1.5 kernel addon still stay/work on 3.80 m33?

x3sphere says:

The 1.5 kernel add-on will not work with 3.80 M33.

frosty5689 says:

So... is there any word of DAX releasing a 3.80 M33 version for it?

x3sphere says:

I just talked to Math, there doesn't seem to be any plans to create a 1.50 kernel add-on at the moment. Right now the NID resolver is still being worked on. It's functional in the current release, but isn't totally completed yet, so there will be updates for that eventually.

frosty5689 says:

Eh.. what does the NID resolver do again?

porchemasi says:

I reallllly hope a 1.5 kernal patch and popsloader patch gets released ...

stormbol says:

The internet radio is great...

x3sphere says:

It basically redirects functions contained in older applications so that they are compatible with 3.80 M33 due to changes Sony made in 3.80. It was primarily designed for 3.X applications though, not sure how well it will work with 1.5 kernel apps. I don't have any 1.5 apps on my MS, but if you want me to test something then let me know.

RJC4LIFE says:

For me, atleast, the programs I use have a 3x version so the 150 kernel isn't that big a deal but I only have the 150 version of Dax UMD dumper and I'm not even sure if another version was released for 271 (at that time) or not.I know there are other updated methods but it's quick and to the point.

Side note:Can someone point me in the right direction for Dax's PS Store PS1 game decrypter? I know it was discontinued but I need it for some research.Yeah..that's the ticket...

x3sphere says:

@RJC4LIFE:

Yeah, you can download it from here:

frosty5689 says:

PepViewer http://pepviewer.blogspot.com/ thanks.

x3sphere says:

Nope doesn't work. Good news though, D_A just said he will work on a 1.5 kernel add-on for 3.80 M33. Of course it'll only be for regular PSP units.

EDIT: and an update is coming very soon.

Hanzo_f19 says:

I don't think DA should keep working on the 1.50 kernel patches.

Again, thanks a lot, Alex!

frosty5689 says:

Eh... Why not there's alot of old school homebrew that's for 1.50 kernel only and we regular phat supporters need them.

cyrus says:

im on 3.52 m33-4. and when i run the update it says "this program will run on 3.52 m33-3 or higher..so does that mean i have to be on 3.52 m33-3 or 3.71 m33 or so to run this update?

x3sphere says:

According to the readme it works on 3.52 M33-3 and up. Personally I installed it from 3.71 M33.

Are you sure the Game folder kernel setting is set to 3.52 in the Recovery Menu?

cyrus says:

thanks for the reminder i just forgot i set it off to 1.50 kernel last night..thanks again XD

nevster says:

Remote play works now incase anyone was wondering :)

just read on the update thread and ppl mentioned that pandoras battery wont work with 3.80, and that theres information on making a new one on qj, is this true?
thanks

x3sphere says:

Hellcat just released a new version of his Pandora installer, compatible with 3.80 M33. The guide here isn't setup for this program though, so I'll need to update it.

XJ.08 says:

Acerthief says:

I suppose you have custom firmware?
Check your keys with KeyCleaner, and see how the results are.
(Don't unpatch key5 if you have TA-082/86 mobo)

frosty5689 says:

Just on a side note irshell stops functioning after you've updated to 3.80 M33.

Acerthief says:

Hm... Ahman should have that problem fixed very soon I guess. :)

XJ.08 says:

Thanks very much you helped very much now I'm in 3.80M33-4
Thank you very much I don't know what to say for you
and bye T.C.

nathanmoon says:

hey x3sphere, i'm nathan. whenever i try to upgrade my blue psp to 371 M33 or 380 M33 it says check idstorage degeneration. can u help me by explaining this problem and giving me the url for a tool to fix it.

x3sphere says:

Try running KeyCleaner:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=1238

It will notify you of any problems with your keys then attempt to fix them.

nathanmoon says:

thanks x3sphere.

nathanmoon says:

hey x3sphere i tried the key cleaner. it didnt work that well but when i updated to 380 M33 from my 352 M33-4 Japanese-1000 PSP it still doesnt work. it says some psp error DRN.......... Then i did a master reset and then my psp bricked. i tried using the first Pandora Battery but when it finished it couldnt even start. i'm devastated. Please Help. I think it has to do with my PSP since it is Japanese-1000 TA082/TA086.

x3sphere says:

Well I never heard of anyone's PSP getting bricked by KeyCleaner before can you still access recovery mode by holding R at startup?

Acerthief says:

Did you unpatch key5? That might be the problem. It would be a full brick if you had unpatched key5.

The region of the PSP isn't the problem, I have a Japanese PSP-1000 TA-086 myself. :D

Gwapingn8 says:

quick question... i'm planning to buy a slim... i'm pretty good with downgrading and doing all these custom firmware on the phat psp.. and i do it for family and relatives.... i could even make a business out of this but no thanks... anyways, my point is i'm all good with doing the custom firmware on phat psp.... does it differ with the slim psp? or is there a different procedure.. i mean, do i downgrade the slim through the 3.5 downgrader then up i to 3.52 m33 then 3.52-4 m33, then eventually 3.80 m33 with the 1.5 add-on? or is there a totally different route? and also, slim psp and lite psp is the same right, just different name calling? sorry for the newb questions, i have never done a slim psp yet, so i don't really want to make a mess out of one. thanks!

Acerthief says:

Slims don't have 1.5 kernel, therefore there's no more "downgrade" progress.
They use "Pandora" (now called a "Universal Unbricker") to flash the firmware directly to the PSP. I suppose you have a custom firmware PSP? Use the guide HERE and make it!

It's better if you have an extra phat PSP battery and a memory stick. It's okay if you don't, you'll just have to convert it back.

Gwapingn8 says:

so you're saying the only way is through the use of the battery and stick combo... the pandoras battery thing? yah i have one phat psp that has the custom firmware and i have done favours for friends... but i have never done a slim before.. maybe i should just stick to the phat one since i saw the slim and it seems very light & fragile and it seems that there is not much difference between the two psp's except the extra memory built in and the t.v. connector included on the slim...

nathanmoon says:

hey x3sphere, i cant even access anything. when i try to boot it remains like a bricked psp only thing it cant be unbricked. please x3sphere can u try to help. i miss my psp.

x3sphere says:

What firmware do you have on the magic memory stick ?

nathanmoon says:

hey x3sphere, i have 1.50 but i can change it to 380 M33-5 but the menu doesnt appear for more than a second. maybe Acerthief was rite but is a there a way to regenerate the idstorage? maybe some homebrew developer developed a pandora's battery type of tool to regenerate the idstorage?

Acerthief says:

Natch, even the best devs around find no way to regenerate it yet.
and... you didn't downgrade a slim, did you? (no offense, just makin sure)

poopballs says:

Hey guys i really need some help here i have no custom firmware on my psp and i wanna get some kind but every time i try it says its corrupted data or an error please help much appreciated

poopballs says:

can any one help me i have a psp with no custom firmware at all and every time i try to get one it is an eroor or corrupted data pleez help

Acerthief says:

Your only way is to use the Universal Unbricker/Installer. Check it out in the FAQ section. Be sure you have a custom firmware PSP to install the memory stick.

Please, DO NOT double post. It's violating the rules.

nathanmoon says:

i do have a 1.50 in my memory stick but the problem is after downgrading it doesnt even wanna load the SCE logo, its just like a brick PSP only thing it cant be unbricked ny Pandora or Despetar del Cementerio. i think it is because of the idstorage. i tried Dark_AleX's Universal Unbricker but the menu that is supposed to load doesnt load for more than a second. i am very worried coz in my experience this is a disaster for me. please Acerthief or x3sphere, HELP ME.
