Team Wildcard have unveiled the initial release of their brand-new custom firmware series. The 3.40 Wildcard firmware supports all features from 3.40 OE-A, as well as an SCEP-style recovery menu, in-XMB configuration menu, and auto detection of kernel homebrew (this means you’ll only have to deal with a central GAME folder – no more GAME150 or GAME340 folders).

Update: Team Wildcard have released an update to the initial release, fixing a few minor bugs. Please note you must be running 3.40* LE to apply this update. Head on over to the official release thread for the full changelog.

The question is, what firmware are you using x3sphere? And if youre using this wildcard firmware, why did you switch??

In the screenshot it says CFW 3.51 wildc*rd???

x3sphere says:

They were forced to release early since some lame website leaked the project sources yesterday (see here)

It was originally planned to be running the latest firmware but thanks to the leak they had to release what was done so far.

It's not better than 3.52 M33 in terms of features, but its better than 3.40 OE-A, because of the new recovery menu and GAME folder detection.

dennis96411 says:

Does the theme works on 3.03 OE-C works on that?

x3sphere says:

What? The above screenshot is what the new recovery menu looks like.

Themes compatible with 3.40 OE will also work with this.

dennis96411 says:

Cause I'm using the XP theme on my 3.03 OE-C,if it doesn't work on 3.40 ***(This),I'll downgrade back to 3.03 OE-C.
:)(

x3sphere says:

Oh, yeah I doubt it will work.

dennis96411 says:

I put in game150 but in the game menu it showed up as corrupted data. What's wrong?
Others is perfect(303 oe,330 oe,340 oe,351 m33,352 m33),with no corruption.

x3sphere says:

The instructions say to put it in the GAME folder.

dennis96411 says:

Thanks!!

Billyjj says:

I dont get it, is it 3.40 custom firmware or 3.51 ????

x3sphere says:

3.40 :) It was originally planned to be 3.51, but as I said, due to the events that occurred yesterday the team had to release it early.

Billyjj says:

Ok thxs...

Acerthief says:

will you make a guide for it, x3
or do you think it's unnecessary?

x3sphere says:

The install guide in the first post is already well written, so no.

Finbaloid says:

looks snazzy...
If I Wanted To Go Onto That F/w Would Have To Downgrade It Back To 1.50 And Then Upgrade It To This?
I'm Guessing Yes Cos Its A Lower F/w...

Or Should I Wait Until This Is Realeased On 3.52?

x3sphere says:

You can install it straight from 3.52 M33, no need to downgrade.

Myself I am waiting until they release 3.52*, since I use some of the 3.5 only features. Plus some UMD games are starting to require 3.5.

MenaceInc says:

looks really nice.....i think i shall be upgrading to the 3.52 version.it does look better IMO and it has the auto kernal detect which would be useful :)

banner says:

Why would you install this crap, when you know its a rush release. This maybe in its alpha stages, not even beta. And with all the time they have (with Dark_Alex's help?), you can tell they're not committed like M33.

MenaceInc says:

thats why i said i would wait til a 3.52 release.even x3 said he would rather wait.

as for M33,yea they're commited but with the updates for their firmware, that makes it look like their firmware was rushed to me.

x3sphere says:

Meh, banner. They weren't going to release it until it was fully ready but thank the leakers... so calling it "crap" is unjustified.

Also, Dark_AleX has nothing to do with this team.

x3sphere says:

Update released for users who are running 3.40* LE...

Alucard says:

I just upgraded from 3.40 OE to 3.40*, and it works great, but the installation notes never mentioned that I had to switch the kernel mode from 3.40 to 1.50 in the recovery menu(hold R when turning on the PSP) to get it to work.

(I was getting a 80020148 error when trying to run the the updater).

With that said, I didn't have to switch to the 1.50 kernel mode to update from 3.40* to 3.40* v2.

This is just a heads up for anyone that is having the same problem I had.
