Play Manhunt 2 On PSP — Uncensored

Posted by x3sphere at October 31, 2007, 10:29 am

A group of Russian hackers have found a way to play Manhunt 2 uncensored on the PSP. The process of course requires a homebrew-capable PSP and involves dumping your UMD to hard disk and then modifying a pair of configuration files found inside the ISO file.

1. Open ISO in UMDGEN
2. Extract PSP_GAME\USRDIR\GLOBAL\LVLSETUP.INI and PSP_GAME\USRDIR\LEVELS\A01_ES\GLVLSET.INI
3. Open this files (with notepad) and find

# —————————————————————————- # [GK] execution colour ramp options: flash fadein (sec), flash duration (sec), flash fadeout time (sec) EXECUTION_COLRAMP_TEXTURE FE_execramps EXECUTION_COLRAMP_FLASH_TIMES 0.25, 0.6, 0.3 EXECUTION_COLRAMP_FADE_TIME 5.0

delete this strings.

4. Replace original file in PSP_GAME\USRDIR\GLOBAL\LVLSETUP.INI
5. Replace original files in all levels in PSP_GAME\USRDIR\LEVELS\ with GLVLSET.INI
6. Save ISO
7. Play

Surprisingly simple. The likelihood of Rockstar facing any legal action over the hack is slim, since unlike the “hot coffee” mod for San Andreas it is not accessible to all.

Did it havent tried out the game though yet cept for normal version this game is gruesome.... Should be fun though aside from the fact that Ive never been a stealthy person.

Are you kidding me? How can someone be this ignorant on a site dedicated to video games?

The "hot coffee" mod was NOT accessible to all. You had to use something to modify the way the game ran. I.E. downloading the modification or using an unofficial, unlicensed cheat device like an Action Replay.

You didn't just run the game and punch in a code in the game.

This is VERY similar to Hot Coffee in the way that you must actually go in and modify files.

x3sphere says:

@Xizer:

Well the hot coffee mod was accessible to anyone with a PC, they just had to download the modification and install. That's what got it mainstream attention in the first place.

For this mod, you need a homebrew-capable PSP, which will prevent a lot of people from doing it, unless they are willing to install custom firmware and such.

I mean I get your point, that hot coffee wasn't accessible without modifying the actual game, but its likely nothing will happen to Rockstar over this because you need a modified PSP. If this hack could be pulled off on an unmodified PSP, then things would be quite different.

Hanzo_f19 says:

hey, x3, can you confirm this? Does this make the game better?

PS:sorry if this sounded stupid :p

solarnoise says:

I'm sorry but the instructions for applying this hack are terrible...what the hell do they mean with this part:

4. Replace original file in PSP_GAMEUSRDIRGLOBALLVLSETUP.INI

What does "file in" mean? It sounds like they're referring to a directory, but it's just another INI file with a different name...meaning I have no idea what the hell they're trying to say.

x3sphere says:

@fearevil19: I can confirm it works. I guess it makes the game better if you wanted to play it how it was intended to be played.

@solarnoise:

Yeah, I didn't write the instructions :P What it means is that you need to edit LVLSETUP.INI, then replace the file inside of the ISO with the edited copy.

Do the same with GLVLSET.INI for each level.

Hanzo_f19 says:

ok, thanks. (going to the store)

Doubleagent74 says:

Well, better on the small screen than not at all, eh?

x3sphere: Let me make sure I've got this straight (and feel free to chime in if I'm wrong):

1) Open up the ISO with UMDGen; extract LVLSETUP.INI and GLVLSET.INI

2) Open LVLSETUP.INI in Notepad and delete the text listed in step 3 of the directions you posted.

3) Repeat step 2 above with GLVLSET.INI.

4) In UMDGen, replace LVLSETUP.INI in the ISO with the version I just modified.

5) Replace all instances of GLVLSET.INI within the ISO with the version I modified.

6) Save the ISO and put it on my MS.

Did I miss anything?

x3sphere says:

@Doubleagent74:

Yep, that's it.

Doubleagent74 says:

Sweet! Off I go...

EDIT: Works perfectly. The screen darkens a little while you're charging an execution, but you can see everything.

PAinKiLLa says:

I cant see why we banned this here in the UK even uncensored I didn't see anything that u couldn't see in a movie. Ppl just need to pay attention to what there kids are playing, its not fair we pay for bad parenting.

RJC4LIFE says:

You can even modify it for a level select feature if you want, I did that the day I bought it. Check it out..and it was originally set to one.

Great hack I'd say, don't see why I shouldn't be able to play the game the way it was intended..

andyhtid says:

@painkilla

im with ya geezer! fine the parents for buying them an 18 cert game, i mean you wouldn't buy your kids beer, cigerettes or porn?

andyhtid says:

HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY TRIED AND TESTED THIS YET???

RJC4LIFE says:

Yes it works fine, and it's easy to do...

andyhtid says:

why did they have 2 ruin this game by it looking like you watching it thru a camera lens? the graphics are a bit shi**y on the psp!!!

Doubleagent74 says:

I was wondering about this myself while I was struggling through the earlier levels trying to see where I was going. Maybe there's another line or two in the INI files that controls the scan lines.

EDIT: Or you could always try the Settings menu. :) When you first boot the game, hit Start, choose Continue, then choose Settings. Switch the bottom option (I think it's called Screen Noise F/X) to Off.

@RJC4LIFE: So then the game had levels that were taken out of the retail version? Interesting...never heard about that. At the risk of sounding like a doof, does the text you posted go into the LVLSETUP.INI?

canadajames says:

I think he means there is a feature that allows you to choose which level you want to play not extra levels.

Doubleagent74 says:

Ah. Well, that's probably why I never heard about it. :blushing:

canadajames says:

Lol man this game is so like sick like literaly sick like gave me a headche and made me check my closet sick and these are psp graphics imagine if it had come to ps3 or 360 and like you saw the guy get his skull ripped apart by the crowbar. That would just be scary. But it would be funny showing your firneds the first time.. But I now see why it got banned in UK. 7 year old with this would get f'ed up.

andyhtid says:

@DOUBLEAGENT

Nice one for the tip, didnt actually notice. ya know i just go straight for the game figure out everything else after i've completed the game

Dont we all just figure out the buttons after we've done the 1st level or so??? :-)

RJC4LIFE says:

No..the levels.txt was in the first directory, global I think?? I'd remember it if you hadn't asked...it'll bug me until I get home and have it in front of me..
There's some pretty cool things you can change around in the ini and txt files. And the level select, so far for me, is akin to the hack for Silent Hill Origins where you can pick your starting point and costume.

Although the day I bought it I looked thru the files and removed the blur crap before this was even news..(not the first game I've modded)
I like this game alot but the AI is stupid..

Question: Why do I have to recompile the ISO after modding using UMDGen??? Wouldn't it be easier to make a PPF patch for this? Anyone got any exp. with making PPF patches? If so lend me your mind...

Doubleagent74 says:

I just opened the ISO w/UMDGen. The LEVELS.TXT is in PSP_GAME/USRDIR/GLOBAL/INITSCR. So then it's really just a matter of changing the ENABLE_ORDER_LEVEL flag to 1. Might have to try it out.

Actually, I think someone already made the no-blur hack into an executable. I saw it over on PSP-Hacks.com.

EDIT: Not sure if this is the place to talk about gameplay, but has anyone figured out how to get each of the two endings?

j8sony says:

Not going to be embarrassed of my ignorance - Will somebody tell me what a "Homebrew capable PSP" is. As in, "The process of course requires a homebrew-capable PSP". I get the part about changing the .ini files, I can do that, but the Homebrew capable PSP has me confused. Do I need to do something to my PSP so that it can be considered "Homebrew Capable"?

x3sphere says:

Yeah - you need to be running custom firmware. There's multiple ways to get there, depends on the firmware you currently have installed though.

VampirellaNum1 says:

Does anyone knows if is possible to modify the UMD of manhunt 2 to get the uncensored version?

VampirellaNum1 says:

Does anyone know if is possible to modify the umd of manhunt 2 to get the uncensored version, and if soo how?, because i really dont understand the instructions given before, thanks!

x3sphere says:

You can't directly modify the UMD. Assuming you're already running custom firmware, you need to dump the UMD to your hard drive, open it up with UMDGen, then copy over the ISO to your memory stick.

Here's a guide on dumping the UMD: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=4440

UMDGen: http://www.exophase.com/files/download.php?id=39

roe-ur-boat says:

No, it's not possible unless you dump it. And edit your first post, son't post another.

Chilly Willy says:

Something weird going on with the threads - this thread isn't showing on page one... it's on page TWO despite being the most recent thread posted to in the forum.

x3sphere says:

I noticed that... for some reason the default listing method was set to thread start time instead of last post time. Anyways, fixed now.
