With PSP title Phantasy Star Portable quickly approaching its scheduled July 31 release in Japan, publisher SEGA has revealed that it plans to release a downloadable demo of the game this month, according to a Gpara report.

Notably, the demo will highlight the game’s single-player story mode and multiplayer aspect, which allows for four-player cooperative play via ad-hoc connection. A firm release date for the demo was not provided, but it is expected to drop two weeks before the title hits retail outlets.

Phantasy Star Portable has yet to be announced for a North American release.

Is Phantasy Star Portable going to be just Phantasy Star Universe's single player mode for the PSP or is it going to be different story?

Either way, I'm going to get this even if it doesn't come outside of Japan.

same here, a must for the RPG collection.

x3sphere says:

Yeah it is based on Phantasy Star Universe, but will have a new story and characters. Also you'll be able to import any existing characters from the PS2 and PC versions of PSU into the game.

I wish this had an online mode though.

Wow really? That's pretty cool, that's just another reason to get this then. :)
