Official ISO Loader In PSP Firmware 3.5

Couple months ago, Sony mentioned that a PlayStation Network-like service was coming to the PSP. No details on what exactly would be available on this download service were given, only that it was coming soon.

Now, Mathieulh has uncovered a tiny module named np9660.prx in both Firmware 3.50 and 3.51. This module is none other than an official ISO loader by Sony, used to load encrypted ISO files off the memory stick.

If this discovery is any indication, one can assume Sony will begin to offer purchasable downloads of PSP games on the new download service scheduled to hit later this year.

Next OE to feature full NO-UMD emulation thanks to… Sony! [Devsgen]

Hmm... I wonder if this could lead to, if nothing else, a way for people with 3.51+ to run ISOs, if it's possible to figure out how they're encrypted. Just a thought, probably impossible to crack how it's encrypted, but meh, just a muse.

Tenshigami says:

They'll find a way. POPS encryption was cracked, so it's definitely possible.

soo ur saying in a couple of weeks people might be able to play ISO/CSO on 3.50..because thats a good thign for me..i heard the game god of war is gunna be released in a month or 2 and it wont work on firmware lower than 3.50 because of the 333 MHz

Tenshigami says:

Even if it's not possible on official 3.50, it has been possible on earlier OEs and will be possible on 3.51 OE-A. Possibly even more compatible in 3.51 OE-A, thanks to Sony.

shadowthor says:

god of war was pushed back till 2008, if im correct and the demo is released this september.

King-Wade says:

im a little confused noww...so is the 3.51 OE-A released yet or will be in a couple of weeks/months??

ohh and if and when 3.51 OE-A is released it will be able to play God of War??

x3sphere says:

no, read the other thread here. D_A is still working on it. It'll be released when its done.

Tenshigami says:

It's not out yet, but it will be eventually. I am unaware of the release date for 3.51 OE-A. But it will be able to play God of War: Chains of Olypus just fine, so long as the game doesn't require a firmware higher than 3.51--if such a firmware is out when it eventually is released.

King-Wade says:

WOO HOOO!!! god of war is my fav ps2 game and now when it comes out for psp i can playy it:D

Cheezeball99 says:

Well, then if it's decrypted is it possible that we will be able to load ISOs in 3.51+, even though it won't be downgradable? Because that would be a nifty kick in Sony's face, IMO.

shadowthor says:

what would be interesting is to get an iso with a downgrader in it, and encrypt it with the sony encrpytion and somehow get it to run on official fw. Then we can downgrade any fw, without problems...

downloadable mini games = xbox live-ish??

canadajames says:

I just think it will help with either slow running or uncompatible games running off mem stick. It's a great plus and definetly could give the psp a giant edge in the handhelds market weeeeeeeeee!

camares says:

none
