NPD Retracts Decision To Cut Back On Sales Data

Earlier last week, it was revealed that the NPD Group will refrain from releasing monthly hardware sales data to the media. Software sales data would still be given out, but only for the top five SKUs instead of the usual ten.
Various media outlets weren’t particularly happy over the decision and neither were gamers. However, it appears that the backlash has turned things around. Today NPD spokesperson David Riley said that the Big 3 are once again on board and as such the NPD will continue to provide media outlets with hardware sales figures as well as software sales data for the top ten SKUs for an “indefinite” period of time.
Nothing is going to change. All will remain the same… The ‘Big Three’ [Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony] are on board, so we’ll be providing these figures indefinitely.
How nice of them.
