NPD July: StarCraft II Reigns Supreme, Gives PC Segment A Whopping 103 Percent Boost In Revenue

As a testament to brand power, the PC segment saw a 103 percent increase in sales dollars this past July, thanks largely in part to Blizzard’s seminal sci-fi RTS StarCraft II. Despite this, retail sales still took a 1 percent dive compared to last year, due primarily to sluggish performance on the console side of the spectrum, sales tracking firm NPD revealed today.

July’s leading revenue-driver on the console end was NCAA Football, which sold a combined total of 666,800 units across Xbox 360 and PS3. Trailing behind was Crackdown 2, shifting a total of 208,800 units. The remaining list of titles on the top-ten chart fell within the sub-200K mark.
