Homebrew developer Sakya has released an update to LightMP3, a lightweight audio player designed to save the PSP’s battery life while you playback a variety of digital music formats including MP3, FLAC, ATRAC3+, and OGG Vorbis.

Now officially out of alpha and into beta phase, the latest release features a number of improvements and bug fixes. Check the changelog below for a detailed overview of this beta release.

* libMAD is now streamed, no more file size limit (based on Ghoti MusicEngine.c in pspStacklessPython).
* Added FFWD and REW to libMAD
* Added volume boost to ATRAC3/ATRAC3+ format.
* Added volume boost to MP3 format via Media Engine.
* Added “Browse dy rating” in Media Library
* Added: Coverart from folder.jpg and albumTitle.jpg
* Fixed: USB connection
* Fixed button autorepeat time.
* Fixed numerous crashes (hopefully!)
* Fixed minor bugs…probably…I don’t remember :P

Uhh... for some odd reason, whenever I start an MP3 file, nothing happens. Nothing plays. Then when I try to exit the program, the PSP locks up and I have to hard-reset it.

WOW what an awesome update, it runs everything I throw at it. The rew and FF are awesome features.
Kwipper make sure the media engine is turned on.
Theres no reason to have it off anymore as you can boost with it on now.
Amazing the differences from this and the last version. I call this one stable, thank you Sakya

Crashes too frequently, (3.90 m33 and 3.95gen1, PHAT PSP)

Or

Blue Screen Of Death

Crashes happen if i try to change the songs maybe a little to quickly

B2K24 says:

it obviously your stick or it's the way you rip your MP3's
I have let it run for hours constantly FF and REW every so often
not once it ever crashed on me
I love this version :)
I use audiograbber and rip my CD's at 320 joint MSINTENSITY stero
I call this version completely stable at least for what I use it for.

Chilly Willy says:

Actually, the most common reason an mp3 won't play is unsupported ID3 tags. Everybody has been sticking things from the album cover to their grandmother's diary in the damn tags, and sakya hasn't quite gotten his code to skip them all so far. A prime example is the free download version of NiN Ghosts.
