Kojima Calls His Next Project A Huge Risk, Could Leave Industry Over It

Famed game producer and Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima says his next project will challenge a certain type of taboo, adding that if he messes up, he may leave the game industry. While the details on this next title remain unknown, the creative risk associated with it must be huge if he’s seriously considering bowing out the industry if it fails.

He stated the following in a Twitter tweet, transcribed by Andriasang:

The next project will challenge a certain type of taboo. If I mess up, I’ll probably have to leave the industry. However, I don’t want to pass by avoiding that. I turn 47 this year. It’s been 24 years since I started making games. Today, I got an ally who would happily support me in that risk. Although it’s just one person. For a start, it’s good.

Talk about holding yourself to a challenge, sheesh. For Kojima’s sake, we hope he manages to achieve his vision, however ambitious (and controversial?) it may be.
