Fans awaiting the localized release of action RPG Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep finally have a firm date to look forward to, as Square Enix announced today that the title is poised to hit retailers on September 7 in two flavors: a standalone UMD disc and limited edition PSP Entertainment Pack.

Serving as a prequel to the original PS2 hit, Birth By Sleep follows the story of three spiky-haired youngsters — Terra, Ventus and Aqua. The trio find themselves thrust into a crisis affecting worlds far beyond their own, including that of Sleeping Beauty’s Enchanted Dominion, the Dwarf Woodlands from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Deep Space from Lilo & Stitch.

Coinciding with the September 7 release is a PSP bundle that features a Mystic Silver PSP-3000 unit and a copy of Birth By Sleep. Available exclusively at GameStop, the bundle also includes several miscellaneous pack-ins, notably a yet-to-be-announced movie that is not Kingdom Hearts related and a Memory Stick Pro Duo offering 4GB in capacity.

At $199, pricing falls in line with the dozens of other PSP bundle offerings. No sticker-shock there. The standalone UMD will retail for $39.99. There’s still no word on a digital PSN release for the PSPgo-trotting among us. Here’s hoping that it will arrive soon after or on the same day as its disc-based counterpart.
