Below are industry hardware and software sales figures for the month of January, care of the NPD Group. It was a predictable month, hardware sales tapered off across the board in comparison to the extremely busy months of November and December. Still, on the whole, overall sales went up 13 percent compared to last year’s figures, resulting in a $1.33 billion month for the industry.

Microsoft managed to outsell the PS3, while Nintendo led the pack with combined Wii and Nintendo DS sales of over one million units. PS2 sales appear to be dwindling — it nearly fell short of the 100K mark in January. For a number breakdown, look past the jump.
