Electronic Arts confirmed this morning the development of a new title set in the action-packed G.I. Joe franchise. Inspired by the upcoming live-action G.I. Joe film from Paramount Pictures, this title will feature 12 popular G.I. Joe characters, each with their own assortment of unique abilities and weapons. Also promised is an intense single-screen co-op mode in which up to two players can work together in bringing down the nefarious COBRA organization.

Due out in summer 2009 to coincide with the film’s release date, the game is multi-platform affair, slated to hit PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, Nintendo DS, and mobile devices. Per the game’s official website, a trailer is “coming soon,” with the first unveil to be showcased at Hasbro’s Showroom during next week’s annual Toy Fair event in New York.

Here’s hoping the trailer manages to impress.
