Feature: Interview With PSP Homebrew Developer Chilly Willy

Posted by x3sphere at June 19, 2008, 6:32 pm

Under his alias of Chilly Willy, developer Joe Fenton is known in the homebrew arena as the brain behind some of the most widely used PSP applications. KeyCleaner and IDStorage Manager, just to name a couple. During his years in the PSP scene, he has also dabbled in the porting of open-source PC game titles, perhaps most notably releasing a port of iD Software’s DOOM complete with TV-out functionality.

eXophase.com forum staffer and moderator Acerthief recently had the chance to talk to the man himself about his views on the homebrew scene as a whole, as well as his gaming interests and extensive background in software development. Check out the two-part interview by hitting up the links below.

Great interview.
I know the man from pm's here in exophase, he's very smart and he taught me alot.

Chilly Willy says:

It's "a lot", not "alot". See? Still teaching.

CoMbiNa says:

It's first  and only then

Should go like this:

The smilies with the huge smile should go before the winking smilies.
It's scientific^^

btw I got another question (not here in PM)

Lol now you're officialy a PSP celeb:D

B2K24 says:

Every day I come home from work there is either a release, or a really good read, courtesy of Chilly Willy.
It has been a really good week!!

I probably wouldn't really be into the PSP so much
if it wasn't for the work he has released.
As I entered the scene (2.71 days) when the corruption free downgraders, KC, IDSM, were really BIG.
His informative and helpful posts really caught my attention, and have peaked my interest into the capabilities of the PSP back in those good ol days.
Thank you for everything.

Hello chilly ,
Big up!

Rob from lan.st here .
Just wondering if you have done any progress with rebuilding PSPUAE . According to the pspuae guys , they have been waiting for about a year for a completenly new build from you . Horseshit or fact ?

Cheers :)

Chilly Willy says:

They've only been waiting a few months. :)

I've gotten sidetracked... I need to get on that, but things keep coming up. "This will only take a little while, and I need a break!"

Actually, my work on adding TV to PSPGL and SDL was mostly all research in how to make the video support in PSPUAE and B2.

The other major hold-up in PSPUAE was that the PSP and GP2X were hard-coded in the code together into a more limited form. I've been converting places where it's GP2X and PSP to just GP2X.

robertfisk says:

Wow :) great news .

Being almost as old as you ,I am seriously looking forward to your future endeavours :)

Current UAE works ok and lets me enjoy some titles , but being greedy , selfish and all that , I want more!

Peace out,

Rob
