ESRB: Mature Rated Games Down 50 Percent From 2005

Get this – violent video games critics. The percentage of Mature rated video game titles released to market in 2007 was only 6 percent – a 50 percent decline from 2005. Family-oriented games rated E for Everyone took 59 percent of the pie, while the E10+ and Teen 13+ categories covered 15 and 20 percent of the market, respectively.

The ESRB also had the biggest year ever in 2007, having assigned 1,563 ratings, a 22% increase over the prior year. And, as you’ll see below, 94% of the ratings we assigned were for games appropriate for ages 13 or younger. It’s never been easier to find family-friendly games that everyone can play together!
