3.51 OE will not be released now unfortunately. D_A also has no plans to return. The OE source code will not be released as well.

We'll just have to hope someone else has the skills to make a custom firmware like OE. Or if BOOSTER will continue DevHook development.

Nooooo!!!! I am crying right now. I will now try really really hard to dedicate most of my time to learn to program in dedication to DAX. It will take a REALLY long time but I am going to try my hardest to make a firmware. It will never be as good as his but I am going to try to get a team together and we will succeed. Does anyone have the source to the custom firmwares and nobody laugh at me. I am NOT joking. T_T

I don't know where you heard this, but its NOT true. He left for personal reasons and to avoid any possible conflicts with SCE.

Isn't there another cfw in development by another person not dax. The other one, that releases 1.53, etc.

The OE source code will not be released. D_A wants Sony off his back, releasing the source code or even just giving it to a select few to continue development means they can still go after him.

Devhook will have to do for now when games come out that require higher firmwares. Speaking of which, I probably need to download the latest version of that.

I wonder if the author of one of the other CFWs can take over? They all seem to be way behind when it comes to firmware versions, but it's possible they were only doing so in order to not compete with Dark_AleX.

INDEED!!!! D_A is the main reason why i bought a PSP. This will be a total lost to the homebrew community. But at least he left us with a lot of goodies to be busy for an entire decade. All the hard work he has put on the OE, I give him respect!:smile:

Well personally I don't know how to code yet... (keyword) But I am trying to code again now that Dax is gone. Together me and Roe are gonna try to do something for the community. To be humble I don't know what to expect. Also and more importantly he and me both want more people either to teach us more or join the team. I just think it would be the coolest thing ever to see someone with a psp with custom firmware and just be like, "I made that" well if it sounds cool to you pm me or Roe and well get into details.

1st of all I would like to thank dark alex for all the good work he as done upto now.

2nd I would like to ask any user that has a copy of the psp 3.03, 3.30 & 3.40 to contact me. I already have all the all oe ones & with the original ones I can find out how to decrypt way faster then I could on my own. Im not making any garanties but I think I can carry on where the legend dark alex left off.

Please dont try to team with me I know meny of u are just trying to help but I work alone.

well, only recently have i gotten my psp and truly got to understand what dax did. i'm sorry to see him go, but in, no way do i blame him. Now if only i could figure out how to get dev hook, dual boot and all that other complicated mumbo jumbo to work w/o his "easy to use CFW".

4th of July is an American holiday. And he's not American. If he had been American, Sony would have located and sued his ass long ago. Europe is much bigger, more diverse, and the laws are different. Probably not all THAT different, but I wouldn't know, as I'm an American.

We ALL will miss him dearly, and we all would have felt better with 3.51 OE-A as a parting gift. But it sounds more like his departure from the scene wasn't to 'retire', but rather a sudden 'oh snap!' moment. If I were him, and suddenly felt Sony's guns shift and point at me, I'd definitely be going, "Crap! We've been spotted! Abort! Abort!"

I don't see that this is really much of an issue. With the latest OE firmware, we have all homebrew, most PSX games, most videos, and most PSP games. The only real issue is future PSP features or games, and future games should be able to be handled via something like devhook. If you're just interested in PSX games and homebrew, you've been set for months now. I don't see anyone trying to do anything more unless Sony adds something big like PS2 emulation to the 4.0 firmware. :biggrin:

Its not so much as we will miss out on OE firmware and new features, it's the fact that DAX is gone and he did so much for us and he will be missed. Not just because of his oe firmware but because it was good to know that he was around to kick Sonys ass whenever we needed it most

Although I don't feel that was his goal- I believe he was just trying to bring something to the people, that we deserved and needed, more so than to kick Sony in the teeth.

wow...really is a hit to the psp scene...and new UMD games are getting awefully close to 3.40....MGS: PO had a 3.03 update on it.... so hope someone else can work on new OE or something similiar.

Well, yes. We'll all miss him, but there's too many people screaming about this being the end of homebrew. Like suddenly all the programs that worked yesterday are all going to fail since D_A left. D_A made running homebrew EASIER, but really didn't do any homebrew himself to speak of. There are a lot of people out there who probably feel insulted over how much some folks are wailing about the PSP being useless simply because D_A won't update OE anymore. I'm not trying to trivialize D_A, but he was a TINY part of the homebrew scene, even if the most highly visible part.

I'm sad to see DA go, and I hope that his work will continue with others. I have alot of respect for what he did for the community, and the PSP itself. Becus25 has worked on his own custom firmware, he may take over the custom firmware scene now that DA is gone. I know there are alot of good coders out there, so I'm not worried that work will continue...I just wish I had the time to invest in it more myself. Noobz is doing their part as well.

How many of us around the world have used Dark Alex's custom firmware, and other Psp utilities he has coded,..... but have not shown appreciation by making a donation to him?

Its sad to here that DAX left the PSP scene now that the new games will
show up they will require the newest FW...
and the most of us i think have the 3.40OE.
Hopefully that somone will show up with a great skills allmost like
D_A and create new cfw..
