Dark_AleX Releases Experimental PSPStates Plugin For Slim Units

Posted by x3sphere at July 2, 2008, 10:20 am

Homebrew developer Dark_AleX has released a new custom firmware plugin that allows users to save/load savestates of their current progress on PSP titles. Dubbed PSPStates, the plugin is still in the experimental stage and currently is only compatible with Slim units, due to the increased memory usage.

It is advised to disable any other plugins while using PSPStates, as well as backup all data on your memory stick in case of data loss. Additionally, the plugin is written specifically for 4.01 M33. Savestates created likely will not be interoperable with future custom firmware releases.

As a final note, it is highly stressed that you do not use the plugin with a UMD inserted. Use of the ISO driver March33, which can be selected in the XMB by pressing Select, is recommended. Make sure to read the included readme file for detailed installations instructions.

Thank you Dark_AleX, look forward to trying this over the next few days with different games.

This made me LOL from the readme
- A good memory stick is recommended. Fake memory sticks are... fake... and shit, they could make
load and savestate too slow.

I love it thank you

Assuming this works with most games it would be very interesting if 4.01 M33
was able to load using timemachine then games with the savestates could be accessed even if this plugin isn't updated to future firmwares.

Does it work on PSP phat?

B2K24 says:

no PSP slim only due to RAM differences.

The README really needs to be looked through before folks try and load this plugin DAX has stressed on that.

Please read the readme !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW just tested this on Virtua tennis 3 and sonic rival It works as advertised folks !!!!
Amazing work DAX TY so much

PspStates Experiment v2 for PSP SLIM
------------------------------------

Changes in V2:
-------------

- Fixed important bug in inter-thread code (semaphore wasn't waiting due to interrupts disabled), that caused the load state to not be completely read in some cases. This caused black screen after state load (unless you just saved that state, in this case state was still in ram), or even worse, game not working properly due to partial load.

- Added states per game basis. The controls are slightly different: old controls now do a local
savestate/loadstate of the game, while pressing additionally select button will save/load
a global state. See instructions for more info.

- Fixed bug that caused normal sleep mode waking up inmediately.

- UMD discs and isos in normal UMD mode are now supported. However, they require to nullify umdcache, by flashing one file, read the instructions below.

Remember that states of the old version are all globals, and you need to press select addtionaally. Also, remember that when doing the load state of a state saved in previous version,
the plugin in ram after the load will be the old one, so it is probably better to discard old
save states.
