Daedalus PSP R13

Posted by x3sphere at November 4, 2007, 2:00 pm

As promised, StrmnNrmn today rolled out a new build of his PSP N64 emulator Daedalus. R13 brings a bevy of changes and improvements to the table, including savestate support and various optimizations which in general have resulted in a 10-20 % speedup for most games.

The most significant new feature is savestate support. You can now save your progress at any point, via the Pause Menu (accessed through hitting the Select button). Savestates are written out to the memory stick, and consume around a megabyte per slot. You can load up a savestate at any time from the Pause Menu, or via the front end (hit the right shoulder button to swap from the rom list to the savestate list.)

Other than savestates, the most significant change in R13 is a number of optimisations to the dynarec core which should give a 10-20% speedup depending on the title being played. I’ve tested these optimisations as much as I can, but if you find that roms which worked with R12 are now broken, try disabling ‘dynamic recompilation’ and/or ‘dynarec stack optimisation’ from the rom’s preferences screen.

In addition, StrmnNrmn is asking for feedback in regards to game compatibility and the new savestate feature. Be sure to leave him a comment over at his blog.

messing with it right now... still really slow..like unplayable slow, but it's a step in the right direction. :)

On another note, Mario 64 is at full speed with the sound off.. :)

...triple post :( .. but yeah.. nevermind, it's still unplayable slow when you hit a stage..

x3sphere says:

Yeah I tried Mario 64 too. Very playable around the castle and stuff but in the first level it drops around to around 10 FPS. Still nice to see the emulator improving though and the statestate function is nice.

frosty5689 says:

super smash bros runs at about 80-100% speed with audio off.although the graphics are still glitchy in some places. making the sound work properly would probably make it more durable for the slow fps.

RJC4LIFE says:

Well, Oot is actually more mucked up than it was, and Majora's Mask is non-playable.It freezes at the intro..on a lighter note Paper Mario is still dead..but Mario Kart runs great.

I just don't see how this emu could ever be complete enough to run, at the very least, the games that most people want to play..but I will keep the faith.

MenaceInc says:

anyone any idea if Sin & Punishment runs?

qwert13 says:

it made my majora's mask not work at all intill i disabling the dynamic recompilation' and/or 'dynarec stack optimisation' from the rom's preferences screen. that makes majoras mask work..
and diddy kong racing almost work i could acutally pick ny char but then it went all blue.
mario kart 64/super mario 64 on my psp run at fullspeed with sound so those ones are good, but all three of the turok games just wont work and i would like to play them. super smash bros is almost at full speed but still a little glitch.
gex 64 deep undercover works except for that when you run aroud you are under the floor and when you jump you can see yourself. goldeneye 007 froze when i tried to start it up and ill try more games to see which work

XsavioR says:

Acerthief says:

You can't, it's illegal

mocolombia says:

Jake says:

It is illegal not impossible, and talk about piracy including roms is not allowed on this site.
