CNet Bans Homebrew Discussion On GameFAQs

CNet, parent company of several gaming-related websites, most notably GameSpot and GameFAQs, has decided to place a permanent ban on homebrew discussion on the highly-trafficked GameFAQs forums. Homebrew is now deemed as an “illegal activity” under the site’s terms of service. Here’s a snip from moderator CNash:

GameFAQs is about to update its TOS. The new document will be roughly the same as GameSpot’s current TOS. The largest and most noticeable change is the inclusion of homebrew under the Illegal Activities rule. That’s why all the stickies have gone – even CJayC’s, because it is no longer correct.

To label homebrew in general as illegal is outrageous. This is further proof of CNet’s ignorance.

Where did all the stickies go? [GameFAQs]

Illegal as per the ToS, not illegal by law.

It make sense to a certain standpoint. If it keeps being discussed more people will put CFW on there PSP which doesn't benefit sony or CNet at all.

If it is never discussed then a percentage of people will never know of it so that percentage will always use OFW and never know of any difference.
